Marcus Chan
Hi, I’m Marcus Chan, a culturally-driven Product and Graphic Designer passionate about crafting thoughtful, intuitive design solutions. Born in Chicago and raised in Hong Kong for over a decade, I bring a unique perspective shaped by the blend of Eastern and Western influences. My approach to design combines structured functionality with rich storytelling, resulting in visually compelling and human-centered experiences.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Flagler College, where I also minored in Fine Art, Illustration, and Advertising. My education gave me a strong foundation in visual communication, user experience, and creative problem solving skills that continue to evolve with each of my project.
Outside of design, I’m fueled by curiosity, travel, and cultural exploration. Experiencing different ways of life not only inspires my creativity but helps me stay in touch with global trends and diverse perspectives.
After graduation, I began my career in Miami as a Graphic Designer for Royal Caribbean Cruises. Unfortunately, like many others, I was impacted by the pandemic and lost my job before hitting my one-year mark. I returned to my hometown of Chicago, where I spent the challenging COVID era freelancing, refining my skills, and teaching myself Figma to stay sharp and adapt to the digital design space.
During that time, I visited Los Angeles for the first time and instantly fell in love. The vibrant culture, diversity, incredible food, and beautiful weather made a lasting impression. Despite the setbacks in my career, that trip reignited my motivation. I began rebuilding my portfolio and actively applying for roles that aligned with my passion.
There’s a Cantonese saying: "此事成功的要件天時、地利、人和三者缺一不可" meaning “The three indispensable elements for success are the right timing, the right place, and the right people.” In the spring of 2022, those three pieces finally came together. I connected with an amazing recruiter who shared my work with Red Bull. The team believed in my potential, and I was offered a role, launching a new chapter in a city I had always dreamed of living in.
Since relocating to Santa Monica, I’ve embraced a longtime passion for cycling. With endless sunshine and scenic coastal routes, cycling has become more than a hobby; it’s a source of energy, balance, and creative inspiration.
